The most important of zeolitecharacteristics are high Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC), capability to absorbammonium ions, and their unique porous structures. Those characteristics can beused for many utilities for agriculture such as soil conditioner, slow releaseagent of nitrogen fertilizer, and growth media of horticultural plants.
Zeolite has a high CationExchange Capacity (CEC) that enables a greater loading of plant nutrients suchas nitrogen & micronutrients, contributing also to the improvement offertilizer efficiency. Because of its high Cation Exchange capacity so they canhold plant nutrients (such as potassium, calcium, magnesium and nitrogen in theform of ammonium) within the zeolite structure and release them on demand by aprocess of ion exchange.
Natural zeolite helps avoidfetilizer loss, reduce nitrogen losses due to volatilisation - nitrogen lost asammonia gas and reduce nurtients loss in the soil.Irrigation washes fertiliserinto the root zone of plants whilst some fertiliser remains bound up inzeolite, less fertiliser losses from leaching and fertiliser from zeolitebecomes available to extend fertiliser life.
They can also be modified tomake slow release fertilisers and can be used as support for herbicides,pesticides or micro-organisms which promote healthy plant growth.

Natural zeolite could use foraquaculture (Shrimp and fish ponds)
Zeolite is used effectively inremoval of toxic ammonium ions from recirculating fish and shrimp ponds. Whenplaced in water, zeolite filters ammonia out of the water and holds it inside its'porous structure. As ammonia is highly toxic to fish this is a veryuseful way of reducing ammonia concentration in water.
